Since founding McLean Design in 1991, Ian McLean has been dedicated to transforming consumer experiences, one brand at a time.
Ian brings three things to every project: a keen understanding of human nature, a razor-sharp design aesthetic, and a commitment to deliver above and beyond expectations. This rigorous approach produces impassioned debates, deep insights, and unparalleled results.
Over the past two decades, Ian has helped shape the CPG industry with transcendent work for iconic brands. He draws inspiration and insight from a broad base of experience building brands for some of the world’s greatest companies.
When he isn’t carving out market share for clients, Ian lends his passion for design to groups such as BevNet and Brewbound, and sits on the advisory boards for Package Design Magazine and Healthy Beverage Expo.
His work has been featured in various publications, industry forums and just about everywhere that design is studied, discussed and celebrated.
Ian holds a BFA in Communications from the University of the Pacific and a second BFA in Graphics and Packaging from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
With a diverse background in building companies, opening new markets, and launching a wide range of business and consumer products, Rifle brings a depth of experience to McLean Design. While Rifle’s focus is on managing and building MDI, he is also involved in new venture opportunities, brand strategies, and go-to-market plans for our clients.
Previously, Rifle was instrumental in alternative energy ventures, evaluating production technologies, modeling performance and capital needs, and creating in-depth business plans to promote the industry to prospective investors. Additionally, he’s overseen the development and launch of consumer services for a $1.7-billion technology enterprise, developing product concepts and customer acquisition efforts across the U.S. and European markets. As an independent consultant, Rifle has helped multiple start-ups and medium-size companies develop and execute growth strategies, product concepts, and marketing programs.
Rifle holds an MBA in Finance and Strategy from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and two BBAs in Marketing and Information Technology from the University of Texas at Arlington.
