Native Maui Redesign is Package Design's Cover Story
In Package Design Magazine’s December issue, they dive deep on the Native Maui story and the thinking behind the redesign of their six-year-old brand identity and packaging system. The cover article, ‘Fulfilling a Tropical Fantasy’, details founder SiSi Martin’s creation of the organic and chemical-free sun care products and eventual partnership with McLean Design to re-envision and update their look for a national and international launch.
In the article, Ian McLean, Founder and Creative Director for McLean Design, explains that “It all started with a strategic process of understanding the brand and its origin.” To capture the spirit of Native Maui’s exotic roots, McLean redesigned the identity as an inverted droplet-shaped shield to simulate hand-carved island art in an earthy brown tone. The use of leafy flora around the tube, aquatic blue background color and custom script font all add to the luxurious feel that appeals to sun worshippers everywhere who are willing to pay a premium for high-end, all natural solutions.
According to SiSi, using an outside design agency and working with McLean Design was “worth every penny.” And it’s definitely paid off. Native Maui is already in several top U.S. resorts and premium retailers.
